Key Characters:

Growth Form: Herb.

Stems: Stems erect, red-purple, to 30 cm tall.

Roots: Underground runners that spread aggressively.

Leaves: Leaves simple. Opposite. Blades broadly elliptic to more or less rectangular, 2.5-4.5 cm long and 2-3 cm wide. Blades dark green with an often puckered and crisped surface. Margins serrate. Petiolate. Stipules absent.
